A SHORT BRIEFING PAPER: APRIL 2010

1 Introduction

Our Board has already established three TASK GROUPS to address issues of importance to the membership in services for young people (The 13-19 Task Group), for adults (The IAG for Adults Task Group), and the Quality Group.

Each Task Group involves senior managers/practitioners from within the membership, nominated by each member; this ensures that the Groups are able to draw upon direct experiences of those delivering or managing direct delivery of front-line services for the public. Associate members are also welcome to participate in the Task Groups. Policy Papers, Discussion Papers, responses to Government consultations et al are usually drafted with direct input from the Task Groups as much as the Board.

Initially and for the first three years of the 13-19 TG and the Adults TG, Paul Chubb acted as secretary to these first two Task Groups – new arrangements were then made to fulfil this secretarial role, with Paul continuing to act as the liaison point with DCSF and DBIS to secure Task Group links with these two key Government Departments.

The Quality Group provides its secretarial support from within its membership (and is chaired by Joanna van de Poll).

The Board of CE has resolved to establish a fourth Task Group to cover WORKFORCE ISSUES, to be led by Sue Gale and chaired for the Board by Paul Chubb.
