Careers England Respond to the All Party Parliamentary Group for Youth Employment Inquiry – #PlanForJobs

30th September 2020 by ceAdmin

Careers England has submitted its response, addressing the 3 questions posed by the inquiry.

1. Are the summer’s announcements Plan For Jobs ambitious enough to address the youth unemployment challenge?
2. Are there gaps and tensions that may cause a rise in further inequalities among groups of young people such as those furthest from the labour market?
3. What more needs to be done to accelerate impact and ensure no young person is left behind?

In summary, the sector welcomed the Plan For Jobs but highlighted the limitations in addressing the challenges facing young people in the midst of the pandemic and beyond.Jobs has yet to be realised in localities, the sector was unable to comment in detail. The funding for the range of short-term incentives to employers and for other training infrastructures was well received, however the sector commented that the effectiveness of these initiatives will only be known when delivery plans are agreed and activities are under way. The response also highlighted that many questions have been posed to Government departments in response to the Chancellor’s announcement and that the level of response thus far has been very light on detail.
